While you travel along the peninsula, and enjoy the view you will make a pleasant stop in the village of Sicuani. One of the main attractions in this place is the Totora reed. This native rafts to furrow the lake give to the landscape a delicate human touch.

The people who lived in different islands around the lake are experienced Totora weavers. This ancient technique transcend the millenium with the constructions in the nearby Suriqui Island. Slender impression of a totora reed is part of the landscape specially at dusk.

SAMPAYA looks like time stopped in this traditional Andean village. Here one of the most noble materials used in construction, the stone has been used to build the whole village. Our national flower, the kantuta blooms the whole year. This village has a breathtaking view of the Illampu, the highest peak in the Royal Cordillera.

Terraces or platforms, are a miracle of farming technology dating from the pre-Columbian era and actually still used for agriculture today. With effort and patience, without limitations, the pre-Columbian people committed their energy into building these terraces, places suitable for farming in the steep, rugged Andean terrain : a very complex feat of engineering. In the Andean regions of Peru and Bolivia you will observe these terraces that even now after 800 years still continue to be farmed. The terraces in Sampaya can be cultivated the whole year because of the aqueduct irrigation system that has kept flowing throughout time.
