Just 40 minutes by launch boat from our Hotel the Rosario del Lago we arrive to Yumani the
principal dock of Titikaka Island. Once on terra firma the first vision you will have is
of large walls on which, despite the action of time, you still can see carved the
ornamental vestiges of the classic culture of the lake. Above these walls, terraced
gardens rise to meet a fountain of spring waters. According to the Andean cosmovision the
waters of this fountain are dedicated to 3 levels. The first level is Pachamama (Mother
Earth), the second is Human and Nature and the third is the Sun, Moon and Stars.
Pilkokayna, 500 meters far from the dock
of Yumani is erected like a sumptuous building that we know as the Palace of Pilkokayna.
The spectacular view of the lake and the Royal cordillera, specially the magnificent
Illampu make us think that this people probably were in contact with the mountains, a
special cult or religion.
If we continue hiking for more less 4
hours to the northern part of the island we will arrive to LA CHINCANA, a Spanish word
which means labyrinth or a place where you can get lost. Some historians believe that this
place was a "Kollka", something like a pantry, where they stored foods and
supplies.
We can observe in Chincana big
constructions, we also admired semi subterranean tunnels and passages, this precinct has
the characteristics of a religious place for initiation. The andean people offer their
rituals in the temple of the Sun. |
